active doggy top pick gear review final

Pros: A great vest for the price. 1050D nylon material ensures a long life. Easy on-off application.

Cons: The plastic buckles will come free if your dog  is large and pulls hard, not for small dogs.

Bottom line: This Feliscanis tactical dog harness is a great option if your dog is able to walk off the leash. The buckles have been known to come free if the dog is large and pulls hard.

Manufacturer: Feliscanis

The breakdown

The Feliscanis tactical dog harness is similar to the #2 Ultrafun and #3 OneTigris vests design.  We ranked this at #8 simply because the plastic buckles have been known to break free on large dogs that pull hard. We had no issues with them snapping free but our dog is not a puller. The material is durable and will last a lifetime. It is made with 1050D nylon which is waterproof, thick, and thin. Your dog will be cool as a carrot in this vest and look pretty awesome. For the price this is a great option for a calm dog that likes to hike and occasionally do some tactical. It will also work for a large, active dog that can walk and run off leash.

Best applications

Finding a job for your dog  will benefit both you and him. One of the best tools you can get your dog when giving him a job is a tactical harness. A tactical harness is different from the traditional harnesses you  find at your local pet shop. Tactical harnesses allow your dog to feel like they are on the job opposed to just a walk. They allow your dog to carry gear, supplies and identification tags and look cool while doing it.

Not all dogs are willing or capable to do some jobs so choose one carefully for your pup. Social dogs that love people would make for a great medic while serious lone wolf types might like to be the navigator or point man role.  If you don’t have a job for your dog to do then use this vest to assist in training.

When searching for a tactical dog harness consider all the jobs your dog both can and want to do and pick a vest best suited to accommodate those jobs. They come in all shapes and sizes so shop around and find the best fit.

Training

If your dog has a lot of energy, all the time, then this vest would make a great tool to help calm him down. Tactical dog vests have been proven to slow dogs down during walks and reduce pulling and tugging. Having the vest on makes your dog feel like they have a job to do and leaves no room for funny business. Consider getting the Ultrafun tactical dog vest to help assist you with training your dog for both easy and more complicated commands.

Medic

Attaching a medical kit and supplies to your dogs vest will give him a very important and helpful job as a medic. Whether your training alone with your dog or hiking in a populated area, having medical supplies is always a good idea. Consider attaching a prominent MEDIC badge for identification purposes and let people know your dog has supplies in case of an emergency. This vest has plenty of room for gear and badge attachments.

Navigator

Whether you’re going on a long hike in the deep woods or participating in a search and rescue mission, having a navigator in your group is important. Now, we all know dogs can’t read maps and navigate but they can carry the gear.

With the Molle webbing and secure VELCRO on this vest you can give your dog the navigator title and allow him to carry the gear. Having your dog carry the navigation necessities is great. If you’re ever in need of your compass, map, flashlight or phone, you can easily pull it from your dogs vest instead of digging through your pack.

Point man

When walking on a leash, most dogs tend to lead and walk in front of us. Some like to walk with us by our sides but that is rare. When your dog leads he is taking the role of the point man. This causes him to be the first one exposed to a threat or danger. If hiking in the deep woods with wild animals or a neighborhood with wild dogs, consider getting your point man the Ultrafun tactical dog vest.

You can attach necessary items like battery operated LED lights and  reflector badges for better visibility, a small cow bell for an audio deterrent, or even protective spikes. The vest itself will also help protect your dog from scratching or minor attacks from wild animals. Make sure your point man is protected and safe during your adventures and training.

Durability

1050D Nylon Material

The Feliscanis tactical dog harness model is made with dependable high-density, waterproof, anti-rip 1050D nylon material. It is made from the same material they use in most outdoor gear and items we use ourselves. To say it’s durable is an understatement. You won’t have to worry about replacing this vest due to a rip or tear in the material.

Durable D-ring for leash attachment

You can see this D-ring has some light wear from snapping the leash on and off. That’s about all the damage you can do to these metal hardware. The D-ring is wrapped with the thick heavy-duty nylon and sewn firmly to the vest. Eliminating any opportunity from your dog ripping it from the vest.

Heavy-duty straps

The straps that hold the four-point harness system have strong bar tack box stitching on each load bearing point and joint to ensure they don’t rip or break off. Additionally, the handle located at the back of the neck is securely attached to the vest with box stitching on both sides as well. This vest is lightweight, durable and water resistant.

PALS webbing for Molle attachments

The PALS grid consists of horizontal rows of 1 in Type III nylon webbing, spaced 1 in apart, and reattached to the backing at 1.5 in intervals. This follows the PALS standards used in the U.S. Military. The PALS webbing is used to attach your Molle gear attachments and other gear with attachment options. You can use Velcro or accessories with button straps as long as it can fit through the 1″ PALS grid.

Plastic buckles

It’s not uncommon to see tactical dog vest’s come with plastic buckles. They appear durable and safe but have been known the break free on dogs that tend to pull hard. If you have a large dog with a wide torso and abdomen be sure the vest is not stretched to the max. Putting constant pressure on the buckles can lead them to pop free. Double check your measurements and if you’re on the fence about which size to get it is recommended to go a size larger.

Comfort

  • Thin soft lining

  • 4-point harness

The Feliscanis tactical harness is great for everyday use. It has a 4-point harness system that allows you get the perfect fit to your dogs unique torso. It has a soft, thin and water proof material underneath to prevent chaffing and soreness. The vest is not too big in length or in weight. Not having a big and bulky vest will easily allow your dog to lie down and rest in the shade.

Breathability

You don’t want your dog to overheat or have to take a cool down break every 10 minutes. Keeping your dog cool while training or hiking is important. You want to ensure the vest you put on your dog allows proper ventilation and air flow. If you plan on training or hiking in the summer heat then you’ve got nothing to worry about with this vest. The thin material allows for maximum air flow while also protecting from the harmful sun UV rays.

Conclusion

Tactical dog vests are great for many reasons including improving behavior, assist with training, help with carrying gear and supplies and so much more.  In addition, the  excursions, assignments and hikes you go on will build a stronger bond between you and your dog. The simplicity, durability and  attachment space of the Feliscanis tactical dog harness make it a good option for a pup that likes to do some light training or hiking.
