You may have heard, at one time in your life, that “size doesn’t matter”. Well when it comes to getting your dog a tactical vest let me reassure you that size does matter. This OneTigris vest comes available in 3 sizes Medium, Large and Extra-Large. You want to get the correct size vest for your dog otherwise they will not enjoy using it. There are many different guides, how-to’s, reviews and testimonies all about sizing up your dog.

Durability

Nylon is a system of synthetic fabrics intertwined together. Other materials such as cotton canvas and polyester could lose integrity if getting ripped. Having a rip in the nylon system will not reduce the integrity of the vest.

1000D Nylon

The 1000D Military grade nylon is the same material you find in  military gear such as backpacks, magazine pouches, carrying vests and more.

It is lightweight, water resistant, durable and easy to clean.

The chances of your dog getting a rip in this vest is slim to none. If the vest does manage to get a rip in it, you can easily sew it using a needle and thread. You can also do a quick fix with some heavy-duty Gorilla glue in case of an emergency.

PALS webbing

The PALS grid consists of horizontal rows of 1 in Type III nylon webbing, spaced 1 in apart, and reattached to the backing at 1.5 in intervals. This follows the PALS standards used in the U.S. Military.

The PALS webbing is used to attach your Molle gear attachments and other gear with attachment options. You can use Velcro or accessories with button straps as long as it can fit through the 1″ PALS grid.

Not only is there is Pals webbing on both sides of the OneTigris tactical dog vest but it spans the entire length of the vest. This allows you to attach any Molle capable pouches or other gear with straps securely to your dog’s vest. The stitching on the OneTigris is durable, tough and will withstand many years of abuse.

The quality of the MOLLE system on this OneTigris vest is superior to the rest. It is identical to the MOLLE gear used in the U.S. Military and is built to be put to the test.

OneTigris actually gives free gear to users to be tested and evaluated. If you want to sign up and try to get free gear to test click here.

Grab Handles

Located at the front and the rear of the vest are two heavy-duty nylon grab handles. These are conveniently located to allow for the maximum control of your dog while training or getting out of harms way. The handles are sewn firmly to the sides of the vest. The double stitching ensures a solid attachment to the vest reducing any possibility of ripping in case you need to lift your dog up with them.

Tactical Leash Mounts

You have two canine tactical leash mounts located at the front and the back of the vest. These large metal d-rings can be used to raise and lower your dog into an area in case of an emergency situation or to simply attach a walking leash to. The two anchor points are quite sturdy.  The front point is single box sewn while the back ring is double box sewn to the vest. This keeps them from ripping or tearing off the vest.

If you have a  dog that is a strong puller, consider purchasing a carabiner to use instead of the hooks that come with the vest. This will add extra security and prevent your dog from bending the d-ring.

Comfort

If you have never used a dog harness or vest on your dog there may be some training required for both you and your dog. It’s not rocket science but if you incorrectly put the vest on your dog it can cause harm to them. You want to make sure to even the load on both side to prevent sagging. Additionally, you want to ensure the vest is properly placed on your dog. You can watch the OneTigris video above for a more thorough explanation.

Breathability

Breathable Mesh Lining

There is mesh lining on the belly of the vest. This allows for great ventilation on warm days while maintaining a secure fit. The material is a lightweight rubber grip material which prevents the vest from flopping around or rolling from side to side. It does a great job keeping the vest in place while allowing for good ventilation.

Adjustable Straps

There are 3 adjustable straps including a neck strap, chest strap and abdomen strap. This three point harness system allows you get a solid, secure and comfortable fitting for your dog. The front strap has a soft lining to prevent any chaffing and maintains maximum comfort for your dog.  It is recommended to tighten and adjust the neck straps first, chest strap second and the abdomen strap last. You want the majority of the weight on the dogs shoulders, not their lower back.

Best applications

Finding a job for your dog  will benefit both you and him. One of the best tools you can get your dog when giving him a job is a tactical harness. A tactical harness is different from the traditional harnesses you  find at your local pet shop.

Tactical harnesses allow your dog to feel like they are on the job opposed to just a walk. They allow your dog to carry gear, supplies and identification tags and look cool while doing it.

Not all dogs are willing or capable to do some jobs so choose one carefully for your pup. Social dogs that love people would make for a great medic while serious lone wolf types might like to be the navigator or point man role.  If you don’t have a job for your dog to do then use this vest to assist in training.

When searching for a tactical dog harness consider all the jobs your dog both can and want to do and pick a vest best suited to accommodate those jobs. They come in all shapes and sizes so shop around and find the best fit.

Medic

Attaching a medical kit and supplies to your dogs vest will give him a very important and helpful job as a medic.

Whether your training alone with your dog or hiking in a populated area, having medical supplies is always a good idea. Consider attaching a prominent MEDIC badge for identification purposes and let people know your dog has supplies in case of an emergency. This vest has plenty of room for gear and badge attachments.

Training

If your dog has a lot of energy, all the time, then this vest would make a great tool to help calm him down. Tactical dog vests have been proven to slow dogs down during walks and reduce pulling and tugging.

Having the vest on makes your dog feel like they have a job to do and leaves no room for funny business. Consider getting the Onetigris tactical dog vest to help assist you with training your dog for both easy and more complicated commands.

Navigator

Whether you’re going on a long hike in the deep woods or participating in a search and rescue mission, having a navigator in your group is important.

Now, we all know dogs can’t read maps and navigate but they can carry the gear. With the Molle webbing and secure VELCRO on this vest you can give your dog the navigator title and allow him to carry the gear.

Having your dog carry the navigation necessities is great. If you’re ever in need of your compass, map, flashlight or phone, you can easily pull it from your dogs vest instead of digging through your pack.

Point man

elite spanker tactical dog leash

When walking on a leash, most dogs tend to lead and walk in front of us. When your dog leads he is taking the role of the point man. This causes him to be the first one exposed to a threat or danger. If hiking in the deep woods with wild animals or a neighborhood with wild dogs, consider getting your point man the Onetigris tactical dog vest.

You can attach necessary items like battery operated LED lights and  reflector badges for better visibility, a small cow bell for an audio deterrent, or even protective spikes. The vest itself will also help protect your dog from scratching or minor attacks from wild animals. Make sure your point man is protected and safe during your adventures and training.

Conclusion

Tactical dog vests can be a great way to improve your dogs behavior, assist them with training and give them a job to do. In addition, the  adventures, missions and hikes you go on will build a stronger bond between you and your dog. The simplicity, durability and  attachment space of the OneTigris tactical dog vest make it a fantastic option for both the seasoned veteran or a new recruit learning the ropes.
